I was about to lecture the group sternly for not having Jaco on the list. You stopped me just in time.

saw him years upon years ago in NYC, called up on stage to play with the Radiators...was only supposed to play one song but stayed on for 4 or 5...drunk as a skunk and pissing off the regular bass player for hogging the stage, but by the end even he was grinning ear to ear and shaking his head. Dude was flat out sick on the stick.

also props to Victor Wooten, as many have mentioned...and Tony Levin probably deserves a nod as well...provided great bass for Gabriel back when he actually played music for a living.

Lots of fantastic bassists already noted but I'll add a few:

-Christian McBride is pretty awesome
-Bootsy Collins should be on there somewhere
-Ron Carter is amazing.
-Dave Holland is great
